Summer Symposium of the Junior GBM

Jena
July 26 - 28, 2024

Welcome

Welcome to the website for this year’s jGBM Summer Symposium on July 26th – July 28th in Jena.

Our aim is to bring together young scientists for an exchange of ideas and for discussing scientific news. This year’s symposium will be about Immunology and host-pathogen interactions. The scientific programme covers a wide range of topics in this field. Young scientists as well as experienced researchers will present comprehensive analysis of the latest findings on the dynamic interactions between pathogens and the host. One focus will be on the adaptation of pathogens to
escape the defence mechanisms of the host immune system, with an emphasis on fungal infections. The immunology of sepsis and therapeutic approaches to treat it as well as the principles of hematopoiesis will also be discussed. In the last block of talks, you will get some insights into the investigation of animal and plant pathogens, including the introduction of rather unconventional laboratory animals being researched in Jena.

Besides the scientific talks, we will offer a variety of interesting workshops, some dealing with modern research methods and others with career perspectives for your time during and after your studies.

Several breaks within our daily agenda and the evening programs will enable enough time for networking and socialising with people from other cities and different fields of working or studying.

We look forward to seeing you in Jena!
The junior GBM Jena

Location

The city of light - Jena, situated on the beautiful Saale river, not only has a rich history of science, but also offers excellent scientific education with the Friedrich Schiller University and the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences. Renowned research institutions such as the institutes of the Leibniz Society, Max Planck and Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft make the city a first-class location for life science and optics. With the University Hospital, Jena is also a leader in infection and sepsis research. Based
on its population of around 110,000 inhabitants, Jena has the highest density of research institutions per capita in Germany.
